It rained. A lot. Not just a nice polite city shower but a hard wet mountain rainfall. We ran screaming and laughing for the apple trees, hoping for just a little cover while we worked out whether to make a run for it or stay put until it passed. Tightly clutching our bags of freshly picked peaches and nectarines, we decided on the former and splodged our way through the orchard at a fair pace giggling and yelping as the rain poured down our faces like happy tears. Reaching the barn, we piled in to the amusement of the three local men whose tanned, weather-beaten, smirking faces said it all. "Took you by surprise eh". "I went and picked you some blackberries. We saw it coming", one smiled.
Our mission complete, we made a dash for the car and heaped in, kids, dog, mud and all, happy, wet and exhausted.
Never did I suspect that this would be the turning point of my life.
Our Story
The Jam Alchemist is a small Sydney based artisan jam producer using sustainably farmed, local, (sometimes wild and foraged) produce.
Our flavours are based around seasonal availability, instinctively pairing fruit with herbs and spices in unusual, unexpected ways. Lower in sugar than most commercial jams every jar is made in small batches entirely by hand in our Sydney kitchen to maintain a deeply authentic taste.
We operate a zero waste business and as lovers of imperfect "ugly" fruit we are working with farmers to help divert food waste and are proud to be a Business Partner of the EPA's Love Food Hate Wasteprogram.
Above all else, we are endlessly fascinated by the sensory experience of travel, of preserving and evoking memories and the slow beautiful pursuit of sensorial pleasure.
